MegaStir fulfills your joining needs through proprietary technology, which is used in a wide range of industries, including oil and gas, shipbuilding, automotive, nuclear storage, and aerospace. Successful friction stir welding of ferrous, nickel-base, and other high-melting-point alloys requires careful control of the process variables, such as temperature, load, tool travel speed, spindle RPM, and heat transfer characteristics. Our tool system has been engineered to function with any rigid load control machine and comprises three components.
MegaStir offers a variety of friction stir welding production services, from R&D through prototyping, alloy development, and full production. We can provide full-penetration and partial-penetration, single-pass friction stir welds up to 25 mm in thickness , and we are continuously extending current limits.
Our capabilities range from simple plate welding for mechanical and metallurgical samples to long welds and complex geometries. Circumferential welds are produced around the outer surface of a cylindrical piece and are used to fabricate structural pipes.
These services are offered for all alloys, including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and nickel-base alloys.
Quality is a primary focus. Each batch of raw material is tested in our elastomer lab prior to being released for production. Additionally, all manufactured parts undergo automated or visual inspection to ensure that they meet your exact specifications and are free of defects.
